For a server or POS terminal, a half-second of bad power is a full outage.
Servers, network racks, POS, CCTV and lab instruments don't tolerate gaps or dirty waveforms. The failure is rarely dramatic — a corrupted transaction, a dropped RAID array, a camera that was off for the ten seconds that mattered.

What is a single-phase online UPS?
An online (double-conversion) UPS rectifies incoming AC to DC, then continuously rebuilds a clean sine wave from that DC to power your load — the load never runs directly off raw mains. When mains fails, there is nothing to switch over, so the output does not blink. This is different from a line-interactive UPS, which normally passes mains through and only switches to battery during an outage.
Online vs line-interactive — which do I need?
For servers, POS terminals, network racks, CCTV and lab instruments, online double-conversion is the right choice — these loads cannot tolerate even a brief transfer gap or a dirty waveform. For a non-critical desktop that just needs a few minutes to save work and shut down safely, a cheaper line-interactive UPS is often enough. We size against your actual equipment, not a default recommendation.
What size UPS and how much backup do I need?
